Aquatic canyons. Within the range of the Alicante mountains there are two aquatic canyons with water all year round. Estret de les Penyes, the name given to the Bolulla canyon as it passes through the tourist area known as "les fonts de l'algar". This gorge has undergone an impressive change since the floods of October 2007. A little higher we find the Barranc de la Mela, this canyon flows into the Guadalest swamp. The first section is open and passes to the left to a canyon with a quite spectacular leap.
Dry canyons: The Mountains of Alicante have more than 10 canyons, which are dry for most of the year, yet they are still impressive. For example, el Barranc de L'Infern, which has also suffered significant changes in the October 2007 flood. This gorge is one of the tributaries of the river basin Girona, in which we find the canyons of Els Penyals, LLidoners, Fleix y Oms. All of these canyons have unique features which make them interesting. Other canyons of interest are the Garx, ó Pas Tancat, and its recently opened tributary,the Barranc del Sord, a tributary of the Mela, the Barranquet de Penaguila, the Barranc de Fraimos, drain of the Sierra de Aitana, El Barranco del Pinar.....Another one that we should not forget is the Barranc del Soler, with its views over the city of Alcoy....
